Fred joined the Royal Navy as a Boy Seaman & rose through the ranks to be a Lieutenant Commander. He was on board the Superb in 1951. After leaving the R.N. in 1955 he emigrated to New Zealand and transferred to the RNZN where he served for a further 20 years.

Jim Stewart with Marie, his wife.
Son, Jeff, is trying to trace anyone who knew James Stewart a Telegraphist on board the "Superb" between 1947 & 1951. Jim served in the Royal Navy between 1946 and 1958 and crossed the bar at HMS Pembroke, Chatham in May 1958 and anyone with any information or anecdotes are invited to contact this site in the first instance in order to be put in touch with Jeff.
By the end of his service he was a Yeoman of Signals

Norman was a National serviceman who served on the 1956 -57 cruise (the last one) as an ERA. He was was a long time member of the Cruiser Association.
Norman was the current Vice-Chairman of No 6 R.N.A. (Berkshire) having been the Chairman for a number of years. He had also been Chairman of the Reading Branch before it folded.
Norman was at President (RNVR) in the early 50s before joining as an ERA. He had served on both the Sheffield (cruiser) and Superb

PETER WELLS

Peter Wells was a National Serviceman aboard Superb for the 55/56 Africa cruise - he passed away at age 78 after a long battle with cancer. He had a rich fund of stories of his time aboard, which was clearly always one of the favourite periods of what was a full and good life. He was one of the youngest sailors aboard (Message from Steven, Peter's son)

George Wheeler served on board between 26th June 1910 and 30 September, 1917 being drafted to HMS Victory II as a stoker 1st Class. He joined the navy on 13th September, 1909 and completed his 12 years of service as a Petty Officer Stoker on 13th September, 1921. "Shiner" A real good mate of mine, if I have got the right one. Both of us "Stoker PO's on HMS Superb's East Indies commission in 56 to 57. He helped me out with a lot of things as I was a very green Petty Officer on one occasion I was suffering with the "trots" and he did my watch for me. We were in the Red Sea on our way to Bahrein. Went ashore with him many times and "enjoyed" ourselves. I remember he liked taking pictures. Later he came to my home and I was very sad when I tried to phone him and was told he had gone to the Stoker PO's rest home. A real nice man always. Clive Godley. AKA. Godders
